Creamy Mushroom Sauce

I’m the only one in my family who likes mushrooms, but that doesn’t stop me making this creamy mushroom sauce when I cook steak at home. Chris lets me have his mushrooms and just has extra creamy sauce, so it’s win-win if you ask me. The sauce is creamy, velvety and so delicious, I love to use Chestnut Mushrooms, but you can use any of your favourite mushrooms. This creamy mushroom sauce is so good over steak, but it goes just as well over pasta with a little parmesan cheese....

Diane Sauce

A classic, retro sauce for steak - this Diane Sauce takes me back to my childhood, not that I ever had it then, but it was always something my mum and dad would order at a restaurant after the prawn cocktail and marie rose sauce starter of course, followed by black forest gateaux! And now it’s totally something I would order at a restaurant - but it’s also great being able to make at home for steak night....

Easy Guacamole Recipe

How do you eat guac? As a dip with a supersize bag of Doritos? On the side of homemade chilli carne (my personal favourite choice)? Or as a way to level up slices of avocado to go with that breakfast egg? This recipe will show you how to make guacamole easily in under 10 minutes. It has just the right balance of creamy avocados with finely chopped mild, sweet onions, with chillies and garlic adding a dash of flavour....

Homemade Air Fryer Chips

Making homemade chips were one of the first things I tested when I finally got around to buying my air fryer.I tried a number of different methods: Soaking the potatoes in water, then patting dry before air frying. Verdict: The outcome didn’t warrant the effort and time of washing and drying the potatoes. Yes, the idea is to remove excess starch so the potatoes don’t burn before they’re cooked. But I found I could cook them without soaking, and they were ALWAYs cooked in the middle before the outside got too brown....

Make Ahead Spaghetti That You Can Even Freeze

OMG this pasta has so much flavour! Sounds a little bizzarre, but to get this much taste it basically involves marinating the pasta in the pan until it absorbs the juices from the veggie packed sauce. Leave it for 30 minutes or even for a day before reheating and slurping up every last bite. I’ve been making this dish for years, and find it’s great - not only as a prep-ahead meal to reheat for a quick tea - but also for when you’re cooking for a crowd....

Roasted Broccoli With Garlic

Make it as a special side for Christmas or Thanksgiving, serve it up with a juicy steak for date night, or simply cook it in the oven alongside a shop-bought chicken kiev, because it’s a Wednesday, you’re tired, and you need an easy tea. Broccoli tends to be my go-to veg of choice, and I do serve it up with LOTS of dishes. Most of the time I simply serve it stir-fried or steamed, but it’s so much fun to change it up a bit, and cook it a little be differently!...

Air Fryer Chicken Curry

Chicken, peppers and onions cooked in a creamy coconut curry sauce. This is my easy recipe - using curry paste to speed up the process.Yep, the air fryer doesn’t have to be used only for dry foods. You can make saucy foods too. You just need one additional piece of equipment - a cake barrel insert (more on this later). The peppers and onions get slightly charred when cooking in the air fryer, which adds a lovely extra flavour dimension....

Beef Stroganoff

I’ve long been a stroganoff fan, my mum makes an awesome one with chicken and green peppers that I LOVE! In fact, I think I’ll have to add that one to the blog soon. A beef stroganoff though? Mmmmmm so indulgent. Chris and I filmed the video for this one early one morning (we often start filming about 5am so we can get a 3 videos in before the kids finish school), and it was so good, we couldn’t resist eating it the moment the camera stopped rolling....

Carrot And Orange Cupcakes

These are some dangerously addictive cupcakes. After scoffing down a few, I had to send the rest into work with Chris as we were in danger of eating the lot in less than 24 hours! I first came up with this recipe for my friend Lucy over at her beautiful website Craftberry Bush. She really is one of the most talented artists I’ve seen - she’s even got her own craft kits in the shops!...

Chicken Pot Pie Soup Video

Ok, hands up. This soup is literally the filling I use for my chicken pot pie. Whenever I go to make the pie, it’s a 50/50 chance on whether it will make it to the pie stage, or whether upon tasting the filling, I just ladle it out in a bowl and eat it as soup. It really is that good, that even the temptation of pastry isn’t enough to make me wait, and I have to dish it up there and then....

Coconut Pineapple Bread

I had a fair bit of buttermilk left in the fridge after experimenting with the Creamy Chilli Lime Dressing from my Chicken Noodle Salad post. I almost made a pile of scones, but knew we were heading for a trip to Cornwall soon; where we’d no doubt have at least a few Cornish cream teas (mmmm fruit scone with jam and clotted cream) and the same argument we always have on how ‘scone’ is pronounced....

Coffee Crusted Steak Buddha Bowl With Spiced Butter

This recipe was created in partnership with Bertolli. When I was first introduced to coffee-crusted steak about a year ago, it totally confused me. I mean, are you supposed to taste the coffee? Should I use old coffee grounds? Am I supposed to wash them off before cooking the steak (after all, the grounds are the bit you’re supposed to throw away right!), should I be using instant coffee?...

Creamy Cauliflower Soup

In typical Kitchen Sanctuary style, I’m going all-in with cream AND cheese to make this soup taste luscious and rich. I’m not trying to make a diet soup that ’tastes creamy but with no cream’ or ‘fills you up with no fat’. This is just a great tasting, hearty soup that will leave you sighing with happiness whilst you eat. Back in my youth, I used to work at a fried chicken shop where we’d get a free meal during each shift....

Healthier Slow Cooked Spicy Chicken Rogan Josh

Are you on a bit of a January health kick like me? Ha ha I like the way that sounds like I’m going to be all about the fitness and good eating for a month. In reality January is so far, more of a comfortable warm-up. A few workouts and some healthy meals, interspersed with the odd G&T and bar of chocolate. That probably means I’ll be looking at a gradual weight loss from the pounds I put on over Xmas (and most of last year if I’m honest)....

Homemade Mint Sauce

Roast lamb just wouldn’t be the same without mint sauce. Fresh and tangy it really adds an extra layer of flavour to that roast dinner. Mint sauce as an accompaniment to lamb is a very British thing. We do have mint jelly too, but mint sauce is way more popular. Lamb used to be a lot more fatty than it is nowadays, and the sharp taste of the mint and vinegar helped to cut through that fattiness....

Honey Mustard Trout With Quinoa Roasted Vegetables And Feta

Currently I’m trying not to feel guilty that I haven’t posted in 12 days! I usually try to post a recipe a couple of times a week, but last week was just not one of those weeks. We filmed 9 videos and did a few photo shoots too. One top of that, Lewis had a choir performance in Manchester, Gracey was in a musical performance all week, we had various deliveries of new kitchen appliances, old appliances taken out, boxes EVERYWHERE (and still there now), 2 lots of installation engineers, and Chris had his foot rested up and iced for a couple of days (he couldn’t drive all week, so I was ferrying everyone around, whilst he spent a lot of the time hobbling)....

Korean Style Lamb Cutlets

Have you tried gochujang yet? I like to use it when I make my spicy pork ramen, my Korean beef bulgogi bowl , Korean Steak Sandwich and also as a dipping sauce for veggie bibimbap. It’s a korean sauce or paste with a smoky-sweet and slightly spicy flavour. Some brands are spicier than others. I’ve been using the paste (rather than the sauce) a lot recently - which has got a bit of a kick, but the kids will still eat so long as they have a big drink of water!...
